The N95’s Legacy and how it impacts Nokia today……….

N95All you gadget fans out there and even the normobs must be familiar with the legendary handset that came out from Nokia’s stables around 30 months ago, it was christened the N95 by them. Its was a legend then, and even is now but a lot of devices match it or better it these days.

Back in May 2007 when i became a proud owner of the Nokia N95 it was the best mobile phone that the market had. It beat it rivals by miles and no other phone could come near it in term of features. It had all what one could imagine. It had the following list of features that were till then unseen in any mobile device:

  • The first mobile phone that had a 5 Megapixel Camera that was a very  good performer
  • The first mobile phone that had 3.5G to be commercially launched, means it could do 3.5Mbps even in 2007, Wi-Fi, UPnP Read more…

Nokia Music Store finally opens in India

Thanks to Viabhav of The Symbian Blog today reported that the Nokia Music Store has been launched today, i checked it out the very same moment and it really did open but the only sad part was that its a soft launch and one cannot download the tracks as of now.

The Music Store has a huge homepage and instead of posting all the screen-shots i chose to stitch them up and give the whole home page in a single picture, which is on your left hand side. This is how the store opens on my N96 in portrait mode.

To access the store all you have to do is to open the Music folder in your device and click on the Music Store Icon, alternatively you can also type in music.nokia.com in your device’s web browser and you shall be directed to the Music Store app by the device itself.

The home page has the image of the latest Bollywood movie New York adorning the top, above which you shall find the options to sign in, join, for help and  to take you back to the home page. The music store does not work with your standard Nokia account and you need to create a new one for it, which i feel is a let down as Nokia has missed an oppurtunity to merge all it services under one Nokia(Ovi) Account. So this mean you shall need to click Join Now and sign up for the service, which is a hassle free experience. Read more…

Nokia Maps 3.0 Graduates to Ovi Maps 3.0 and Nokia PC Suite Updated

Nokia Maps 3.0 is Now Ovi Maps and a Graduate from the Beta labs

Ovi Maps 3.0 has now graduated from Beta is is directly available from http://www.nokia.com/maps. The new release incorporated bug fixes and interface adjustments along with maps data updates for different countries and traffic info for those of you in North America.

The map data for India has also been updated and we have support for quite a few new cities like Chandigarh, Jaipur, Surat, Gandhinagar adding to the existing list of New Delhi (NCR), Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore amongst others. The Maps for India now weigh at 65MB.

To install this new update, you need to download the Nokia Maps Updater, a PC-only application. All you Mac users and Linux users out there still need to wait to get the Maps Updater but if are willing to update then thank Ricky Caden at the Symbian-Guru who did some well-timed searching and pulled out the straight up .sis files for both S60v5 and S60v3 Feature Pack 2 devices.

Nokia PC Suite has been updated to version 7.1.30.9 today

The application is 35Mb in size, that goes up to 290Mb on installation. Though this update does not mention any new feature but shall surely improve on the application’s stability.

When you shall run your PC Suite Application it shall prompt you to update but for any reason if this does not happen then you can download it over at the Nokia PC Suite website.
